The Story Behind the Poem
It was a particularly beautiful day in Southern California, as
Lily Cavell viewed the well manicured lawns and giant shade trees from her
High-Rise studio. Today, however, the unusually peaceful scene had been
interrupted. For only a few blocks away there billowed forth an ominous
black cloud, that, trailing off, would reduce an other's earthly dreams into an
empty pile of smoldering embers.
Oh! how close -- how dangerously close was the monstrous passion
of men, who had terrorized the city with burning and looting for the past
several days.
Fearful, and painstakingly Lily Cavell listened intensively for
the comforting screech of a fire engine, but non was heard --- there weren't
enough to go around.
Such was the back-drop that compelled Lily Cavell to find refuge
in the Ninety First Psalm, and, through it all, give birth to her love inspired
poem "The Secret Place".
She says: "It is my fondest hope, that my listeners,
will find comfort and refuge in my poem "The Secret Place," --- That
is they follow in prayerful meditation the steps that takes them into the
Presence of The Most High, they too, will experience the miracle of Grace that
protects and heals until the storms of life have passed."
